Hello Blog. I type this from the ethersphere, as I float around unconsciously in a lazy ocean of goo. I’m not quite sure how I got here, but it probably has something to do with not getting a good night’s sleep for around three months, coupled with the Doctor Who marathon I’ve enjoyed for the past few days. I must have busted an inter-dimensional portal or something. That’s one of the warnings they don’t put on your tubes of gouache and what-have-you. Art can have some pretty serious consequences, it turns out, where portals are concerned. So if anyone knows a way out of here please send a comment or email.
In the meantime, here is an update on some of the stuff I was working on at school, before the whole goo thing. While I was going through some of my loose papers I came across this whole project’s amazing origins.
That sketch changed into two rough color studies in gouache.
And a digital version.
And this is my attempt to paint the same image in gouache, which isn’t exactly as good but, eh. It does look kind of nice without all the sketchy line work at least.
Finally, I did a digital color version of one of my other sketches from a few weeks ago as well, which was more popular than the kitty one by a whopping 2:1 among all three people who read my blog. So please enjoy.
It’s probably a safe bet that you won’t be seeing a lot more gouache-based images out of me from now on. I like designing images on paper, and I like paint, so you’d think I’d like painting on paper. But no. It is taxing. Maybe if I toned the paper first it would be less frustrating since one of my biggest issues was always trying to cover up bright white specks. But for now I’m delighted to never have to use it again, ever. Hooray!
